Playing movie on 2nd monitor

I am doing a presentation from a laptop which is connected to an LCD
projector. I have dual display enabled in Win XP Pro and the LCD projector
is the 2nd display. When I play a movie clip (mpg2) in WMP9 on the laptop
screen (monitor 1), it plays fine. When I drag WMP9 over to monitor 2 (LCD
projector), I hear audio but the video is black. What am I missing?

Depending upon your video card (MB in this case and software used) the vidoe is probably using an overlay which can only be displayed on one port at a time or only on the primary display. But from your description it may be more a resolution issue as well...
Change which display is primary and see if the behaviour reverses..
