Playing DVD via TV

Just completed my first slide show, saved it to a DVD as instructed using
DV-AV1 (PAL) burned with Sonic Version 7 on my HP Laptop using a DVD-R disc.
It will not play on my main DVD player OR the player in my laptop
(InterVideo WinDVD) but will play when I select play via Windows Media Player.
My main player is a Panasonic DV-565A which appears to be able to play
everything other than 78's

It shows only one file called video clip, it has the Windows Media Player
symbol on it, PLUS it says Opens with Windows Media Player. This looks like
the problem but how do I make it open via a DVD player???

It appears you have burnt an avi file as a data rather than a dvd movie.

I am not a sonic user but you are trying to burn a DVD Movie rather than
creating a data disk. I looked at a couple of sites referring to
'recordnow' that comes with HP - I didnt see a reference to movies?!??!
Do you have sonic mydvd...which is also mentioned on the HP website?

Hopefully a Sonic user can help further

Ken,

First you must save movie to the hard drive. Then import avi file into MyDVD
and it will burn the DVD.

I don't have MyDVD with Sonic it's just called Record Now, interestingly it
asks you to upgrade when you click on the movie button!!!
I've got the DVD to work on my computer by changing the option to open with
Intervideo WinDVD and not WMP, but you cannot do that with a stand alone DVD
player
I just assumed that there was a way of setting up WMM so that it told the
file to open in a DVD, you are telling me otherwise!!! Thanks for your help

Ken,
As eeyore said, you still basically have a data file on a disk. You don't
have a formatted DVD. That's why it won't play in the home player. If you
burned this data file with a DVD burner, you should have some software that
came with it. Roxio, Nero, Sonic (MyDVD). You cannot setup WMM to tell the
file to open up in a DVD playing software. WMM just creates .avi files. Third
party software takes the DV-AVI files and compresses them to format a DVD.

Thanks for that I've found a WinDVD called Creator 2, looks like it should
do the trick, will advise after I've had a play.
I'm just a bit slow with this technolgy as I've not used it before and I'm
probably a lot older than most on this site!!!!
Could become an expert in another 3 years just in time for my pension.

ha ha...Kenb, I am just as old as you, and I have learned that we have more
'persistance' than the yunguns. Just keep at it, and you'll be a movie
making fan pretty quick. Otherwise, don't just read your own
questions/answers in here, look at all the rest and you'll be surprised at
what you can pick up on. And the other thing about being older, is that we
can now confirm that wisdom IS time sensitive. ha ha ha

Just to confirm, it does work when you use the correct software, must admit
I used WinDVD Creator for the whole thing not WMM, next try is WMM with just
the burning via Creator.
Again thanks for your help

Too true, I've learnt a lot in the last few days, may even be telling my
daughter a thing or too about this movie making business!!!
