Geez that was a long and recurring thread in the HDTV group. The
consensus seems to be YES !

Still not quite sure about the distinction between PC monitors and TV
monitors. Why dont they get ruined super easily? They have static
images on them for hours despite the standard use of screen savers.

I mean you dont see your spreadsheet and newsreader or Internet
Explorer wigging around all over the screen do you ? To prevent burn
in? And yet everyone says for sure it will and has caused burn in.

Ive seen posts all the time from people who got burn in and are pissed
off at the station for having some static image on the screen. The
people who sounded like experts say unless its really bad - it
generally causes uneven color over the screen over time etc. A
degrading of the picture. They warned about watching banners or stock
info crawling at the bottom of the screen for hours on news channels
etc.

They also warned about maxing the contrast etc in the first 100 hours
or so I think it was when you got your TV. I kept mine below 50% mark
when I got my TV. Some mentioned playing games on their TV screen and
they didnt think it was a good idea.
