Placed in a state that prevents db from being opened

I have XP and I'm using Access 2000. I have a db that is
used by several users. When more than one user tries to
open the db they get an error message thay says the db
has been placed in a state (by user who already has it
open) that prevents it from being opened. I found a MS
knowledge base article (289677) addressing this problem
that says to install Service Release 1/1a. I've done
this on all machines and still have the problem. Any
ideas. Thanks in advance.

Hello

There would be many question which has to be asked, to get a real clear idea of the situation. But the first thing I can advise you to do is to check the version of the file msjet40.dll and update it
How to do it
========
1> Search for the file msjet40.dll on your computer. Rigt click the file and go to properties. Go to the version tab. Check the version. The version should be in this format : (4.0.7328.0) The number 7 in the version says that the file is updated with service pack 7. The latest is service pack 8 (4.0.8015.0). If your's is not 8, try updating it. It might solve your problem.
2> Link for jet service pack http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=82955
3> You might also like to look at this article : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=24896
4> Update the office service packs : http://support.microsoft.com/?id=27636

I hope this should resolve your proble

either the open exclusive flag is set (select open & check for exclusive) -
or you don't have rights on the directory to create files (needs the
dbname.ldb to work for multiuser) - on netware the latter is simply fixed by
creating the file manually & preventing users from deleting it...
