I'd like to suggest a NEW category.......At least *another* TYPE of program.
One that's VERY easy to use, and very small.

I've used a few, to wit, Zip2000, MyOwn Backup, xxcopy, AbiCoder, Opera (the
old freeware one), and a host of ones written for DOS that were great.

Nowadays, however, all the freeware, shareware, crippleware, nagware, and
the old fashioned shrink wrapped junk is just pretty damned bad! Why is
that? Is everyone trying to win a Nobel Prize for JMB? (just more
bloatware).

Even the stuff hyped on all the latest web sites is suspect. Can we have a
new bunch of reviewers?

I agree that a small market exists for specialized programs. Ones that do a
specific thing that *someone* wants and likes.
BUT, the majority of users don't want Pegasus mail (complexity gone amuck),
or Mozilla (another great idea gone south). Their replacements are just as
bad, and still the writers envy M$.

So, flame away, if you need to. But, I'm a voice in the wilderness that
needs an ear.

I want some simple, small programs that will do a few uncomplicated
things.....

A mail program that will allow multiple accounts. Simple GUI. Plug me in if
required for ego purposes. Mostly, no.

A news reader so to rid myself of OE. But NO! Let's let it do EVERYTHING,
and be good at nothing.

Even a small, simple OS can't be THAT. It has to be LINUX MAXIMUM. Or
nothing, I guess.........

A hard copy writer must bow to his audience. May this maxim spread to
freeware folks with osmosis:)

Just my thoughts.

Here's your site. Most free, some not. I love this site.

No, it's not. I use this site, and appreciate the ones the make it happen.
But this is a *fringe*site, not one that people frequent. The reason, of
course, is these are too damn specialized. The model, the mentality, is
grand. These authors *should* write apps that do what the rest *want*, and
then the site would be obsolete. Grab one of these adventurers by the
collar, and direct them to write a browser that *was* what Opera *was*. What
Xnews *should* be, what *Agent* started out being.........and why Linux
broke the hearts of the ones that believed.

By God, I believe (being a millionaire, I can believe what I want), that I
could take a few of the newly comissioned, and direct them to write a host
of programs that would fit on ONE floppy, and make them all rich. It would
be a bit dirty, but the product would DO what it's suppose to
do..........what has happened to the talented? Have they all fallen into the
abyss? Doesn't anyone have the huevos to agree with me?

It clearly installs. It says no uninstall, but the only way to open the
program is to install. No option on the site.

Since the poor can't pay for a good attorney, they usually loose.

I think this thread I started elsewhere is pertinent, including a
response I posted that I got by email here:

I believe that vanity is responsible a lot of unecessary complexity.
