I have very little experience burning, and also have a NEC 3550a.
This is my 1st learning about 800mb cd discs. Do you know of any slightly
larger-than-normal dvd discs? I have an application that uses several dvd
data-discs that have to be inserted depending on certain parameters of the
ap. I can copy all but one of the dvd's (need an extra set for use in
another computer)--this one is a mere tad too large for Nero's copying. I
even tried w/o success to copy it using 2 other burning/copying programs.
Thanks for any help. s

Did you try making an Image of the original DVD then burning the image
back to a new DVD.

Hey Big Al, no I have not. Do I just use Nero to image it to hd? And
do I then burn the image to dvd--or burn its "converted-back from image"
form to dvd. I'm using Nero 6.3.1.20. BTW, this is NOT a movie dvd, just a
data-dvd if that matters. Thanks a bunch, sam

I think when you burn you can pick a different drive and you should have
an 'image recorder' as an option. Its really going to ask you for a
file/folder name. Nero uses nrg file extensions.

You can get a trial of WinISO http://www.winiso.com/ and it will make an
iso image from a CD and then burn it back.

if you have the drive there is a dual layer DVD that holds 8 Gig, you must
also purchase the dual layer DVD's

Thx, I did that. But I'd still like to find out how to "shrink" or
"compress" the info on a data-dvd--IF it can be done. Actually, the fact
that this one disc has 4.65gb causes me to really wonder how the mfg. of the
proggie made it; obviously they did not compress the data, as 'PROPERTIES'
shows the disc to have 5,001,740,288 bytes, or 4.65 GB! And on a non-dl
disc. [[ Google showed that several years back a co., (iirc)BeAll Inc.,
made some 4.85gb discs, readable on normal dvd drives. ]]
Another thing: I wanted to 'share' a working copy of this ap. with a
couple of friends who have old hardware, ala non dual layer-compatible dvd
readers. I'd need to make it as simple as possible, as they both have like
zero-computer skills; and a switch to a disc with dl-attributes could wreak
havoc.
Thx to all who shared thoughts. sam
