PING Echo - Re: Star Wars Credits

Hi Echo!

I have a friend who is trying to access the Star Wars credits page of your
website, and he is not having much luck. I have tried to guide him through
the process, but, keeps getting a black page.

He has PPT 97. Will the credits work with is version of PPT? I thought it
might be worth asking before we both have no hair left. I have one nerve
left at the moment, and I'm getting on it terribly. :))

He has gone to the site, then the page and waited, but he gets nothing but a
blank screen. I went there too, and I saw the names start to move up and
then fade out. Obviously, he is not seeing this. I sent him the URL for the
PPT 97 viewer to try, but, that did not help either. He does have the full
97 PPT program on his hard drive. But, I thought maybe he might try the
viewer just in case.

In the mean time, I thought I'd give a holler atcha here and if there is
something he should do that has no yet come to mind, to if it will work with
his 97.

Have a good one.:)

Hi, Jan.

The Star Wars Credits thing works on PPT 2002 or 2003. It should be a
downloadable file.

Have him right-click and save the file and then use the PPT 2003 Viewer
to see it.

If he's running it in the browser (?), the animation run-time thing
might help.

But the file is just a basic PPT file -- I didn't save it as a webpage
or anything.

Hi Echo,

OK, well NOW I see it!
I was beginning to think it was version specific.
Downloading the PPT 2003 viewer was just the trick.
Looks VERY slick!
Hummm.....no AT-AT walker animation? Darn.
;-)

Thanks,

'k..I'll send this along to him so he can have all the information at hand.
I am trying to get him into PPT again. He's a big SW's fan, and he spotted
this when he popped in to the ng to look around. Naturally, he was expecting
something a bit different, from the movie. I explained it was a type of
animation so he wanted to see it. Since I sent him the old viewer, guess I
best he get the new one if it only works in 2002 & 2003.

But, wasn't there a way that this worked in 2000? Seems I recall some
method of getting this type of effect in that version. But, well...dementia
is always just lurking about. I don't remember what I forgot the day before
and thought I remembered yesterday that I know I really wanted to forget
about. It's really much easier when you don't think about it. ;-)

Thanks Echo, I'll send this off to Jeff, and if he has any questions I'll
send him back to you. Have a really great day!

Jan :)

Oh! BTW...just wanted to tell you how really cute your 'lil 'Echopatra' is
on your website. It is soo totally cool!

Heh, yeah, it's pretty basic. PPT's definitely not Flash. I probably
should remove the "Star Wars" in the name, but it seems that's what
people search for when they're looking for examples of scrolling
credits.

Troy Choller has a very nice sample of scrolling credits as well. It's
also 2002/2003-specific. http://www.tlccreative.com/ppt_tutorials.htm

Looks as if he found it, Jan. Maybe I should change the text in the
animation to Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader so people won't be so
disappointed. :)

<chuckle> You can do credits in PPT 2000, but they're not terribly
slick. Basically, you drag the textbox off the top edge of the slide and
then set the animation to crawl from bottom. I can't remember if anyone
has a sample of that around or not.

Isn't that the funniest thing? Glenna made it for me! I've no idea how
she does those, but I think they're sooo fun!

Yeah..when he first mentioned it I thought WOW! A new Star Wars thingie!
(yes..and a Trekie too) I asked him where he found it, and when he came back
with your link I knew what 'Star Wars credits' they were. said:

Oh yea...now I remember. I recall seeing that in one a response to a post
regarding the Star Wars credit setup. Come to think of it, I probably have
that in my resource library. I'll have to look and see. I can pass that
along to Jeff as well.

Oh my gosh, she is so clever! I saw that and just purely cracked up. Mainly
'cuz it just looks like something you'd do! It would sure be neat to learn
how she does it. Maybe she can set up a tutorial or something for that. Hope
she's coming to San Diego this Oct., we'll mug her there and get the
know-how. <vbg>

Thanks for the info, Echo. I appreciate it.

Jan :)
