Tried installing the latest nVidia ForceWare 3.13 drivers. Windows XP Home
stalled during bootup. Using the "Last Known Good Configuration" option also
got me nowhere, only a crash or reboot. Safe Mode got me into Windows, which
then proceded to crash several times. After trying Safe Mode a couple more
times I finally got into Windows albeit with an unchangable 640x480
resolution with 4bit colour.

System Restore luckily got me back to where I was before everything went
wrong, but where did I go wrong, any ideas? I usually stick with the "if it
ain't broke, don't fix it" approach, but I want slightly better performance
out of my system. I chose "Yes" when asked if I wanted the "IDE SW Drivers",
could that be anything to do with the bootup problem I mentioned?

Everything is up-to-date except the 1007 BIOS, which I have on a floppy
waiting to be flashed as I type.

Could be... I'd try installing without the IDE drivers and see what happens.

I don't think you'll get much more performance (in fact propbably a tad
less, but with less likelihood of problems), but it depends on what drivers
you have now.

I've had no problems with it.

Will try again later in the week, see below...
I've had no problems with it.

Just flashed to 1007, everything works as before, no problems here. However,
on loading, Windows XP detects "NVIDIA nForce2 Memory Controller". I click
on find driver, drivers found etc etc... The same message box pops up time
after time after time even though it has found them... think I need to try
the new drivers now to sort this one out!

Thanks for your help Ben, as always, it's appreciated.

There should be 4 of them. And in addition, an "Ultra 400" one too.

No problem.
