This time, the updates are so many, that they are virtually flooding
this group. I want to propose a little change. Please, Arjan, group
these update infos into categories, like multimedia, network, system
tools, and so on, and make an posting for each group, with the
concatenated updates.

I think the info can still be retrieved by those who are interested,
and the group is a bit more readable. It is hard to tell relevant
subject lines apart, when the are covering the screen by several
dozens.

TIA

Gabriele,

That's just because of I've been a few weeks away.
I looked in the group for updates that haven't been posted, and did some
updates.
If this many updates bother you, in the future I won't post updates after
I've been a few weeks away, like now.
Bundling those post is much more work for me, and I dont want to invest
more time in this than I do now.
I'm sorry if it bothered you.
Of course I can also quit posting these updates. After all I don't post
these for myself. I myself like it when people post updates to the group,
that's why I do the same in return.
Just thought they were useful for some people, but of course, if a
majority don't like them, I'll quit with it.

Please don't quit. In a perfect world, they'd be categorized, but the
world isn't perfect. So we'll take what we can get. ;)

I would say that when I saw the volume of posts it was noticably large, but
IMO far from "flooding". I was easily able to skim down the names of the
programs to find those that I found interesting and was not inconvenienced
by the amount of posts. a.c.f seems like a fairly high-volume group anyway.

That being said I can see how it would get up the nose of some people. For
such an audience I'm sure their news client's filtering features can help
them out.

Can't say I've been on a.c.f that long but I've found your posts useful so far!

Cheers

Hello Arjan,
Will you please go on posting? It saves me hours of work to find
(almost) everything in one place.

I didn't mean to discourage you, only to help avoiding such situations.
I see very well that you are trying to keep the group in good shape,
and appreciate it.

Likewise, keep 'em coming. It's not as though Arjan flood-posts every
day. And as said before, if people don't like it, they should learn to
use a kill file. I like the update info from Arjan.

Jerry, did you have permission from your parents to use the pc ?
(I won't translate the 'humorous remark' Jerry made, because the translation
wouldn't make it any funnier than it already not is.)

I have one of my own ...

Nobody asked you to do so and besides, the msg wasn't addressed to you ...
because the translation wouldn't make it any funnier than it already not is.)

Have a nice day Rod,

I didn't choose that name, it is from my father, of frankonian origin.
It means something like "new field", but might be misinterpreted as
"newly arrived".

I don't want to killfile Arjan, there is definitely no reason for that.
He isn't like Protean in his first days; it was just that large number
which comprised half of the postings of that one day, and the fact that
a few of these announcements had already been done by others.

Si tacuisses... applies to more than one person, me included.

Believe me, in dutch it can be misinterpreted in a way which apparently
triggers some people to make childish remarks about it.
