Picture and Fax Viewer not working...

my picture and fax viewer program seems to have
dissapeared. When I open my pictures folder, the files no
longer are able to show a thumb. When I click on them
nothing happens. When i "open with" the program "windows
picture and fax viewer" is no longer there.

However, the registry is still there in the root. I have
no idea what happened. Did some one erase my program?
I've tried looking to see where I can download it from but
no one else seems to share this problem with me and there
seems to be no where to get the program back.

please help me to get the program working again as my
default picture viewer.

Hi Jesse,

It's possible you've lost the association and that is why it is unable to
display the pictures.
Please try the following

Start -> Run -> regsvr32 %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll
Close and reopen the window and try again.

Jesse,
This might sound kind of strange, but I am facing the
opposite problem, I don't want Picture and Fax Viewer to
be my default viewer. I prefer ACDSee, but I can't shut
that cheap, written in, wincrap off. What did you do to..
break it? -)

Disable Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

By default, Windows XP opens all picture files
(gif,jpg,...) with the included Windows Picture and Fax
Viewer no matter what other picture viewers you have
installed. To disable the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer,
unregister shimgvw.dll. This can be done from command
prompt:
regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
