Photos on Desktop

I am unable to put a photo on my desktop that is currently in "My Pictures".
Until a couple of months ago, I had no trouble when I right clicked on the
photo and clicked on "set as desktop background". Have I inadvertently
changed some control that is now not allowing me to do this?
Also, I can still change the desktop by going into "Display"........however,
when I click on the name of the picture, it does not give me a sample of what
it will look like on the desktop. It remains white. Could there be some
correlation between these two situations?

Try this, maybe it will restore the option:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

As a temp workaround you can copy / paste / drag the photos to
C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper
until you use restore or whatever to resolve this issue.

Would you have time to sign the guestbook and leave a word of support for

Thanks for your quick response. I have already tried this and it didn't
work. This was a reply to someone else who had the same question. Any other
thoughts?

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

2nd reply..............The first time I tried this earlier today, message was
that it couldn't find the file. I just now tried it again and message box
said "Dll register server in SHMGVW.DLL succeeded." ...........but, I'm
still unable to put my photos on the desktop. I shut down and restarted my
computer.........still didn't work ?????

Solving problems like this can be somewhat
of a guessing game. And...believe me...I'm
guessing because I've never experienced
the issue you describe.

I'm experiencing the exact same problems in getting my pictures onto the
desktop you, although it does work if I go through the control panel. It's a
bit long winded though - have you found a cure?

Ramesh,
Thank you for supply advice which has fixed the problem for me that Sue has
expressed (hope it helped her too). Just one other thing, is there a way to
reconfigure so that when I select set image as desktop item, it always
displays it centered rather than tiled?

Excellent! Steve. Thanks for the feedback.

I don't think there is an option for that in the User Interface. But, I'm
working on this now and found a workaround. Shall post back after testing it
fully, and if it works consistently.

Ramesh, you've made my day!!! Thank you so much. I finally found the time
to get back to work on this and thanks to you, I can now put my pictures on
the desktop.

The web site you recommended fixed my problem. The first two commands did
not work. It gave a third one to try if the other two failed..........AND IT
WORKED!!!! I've been e-mailing with Microsoft and two of their "techies"
have been unable to help me???

I'm forever grateful.................hope this has also helped others.

Sue, I'm having the same problems trying to get my photos to show up on my
desktop. Although it shows in the "test" display under the desktop tab.
I've tried all 3 of the "Start, Run" entries to no avail....what was the 4th
fix you mentioned?
