Photo to graphic Freeware?

Hi,
Does anyone know of s/w that will convert a colour or b+w pic to a line
drawing or similar graphic effect.
I have tried Segger: at the suggestion of Frank Bohan

but the output is too cartoon like.

Can anyone help me locate such s/w or should I consider something like Adobe

Easy!
Irfanview.
Image - effects - edge detection.
Than you usually have a very black picture :)

Select Image - negative and enjoy your line drawing.

You could see if Inkscape fits the bill: it can trace your photograph to a
vector graphic which you can adjust to your liking. The tracing process is
completely configurable, to adjust the output to your wishes.

http://inkscape.org/

You can download the CVS version (most users use that one since it's far
stable enough for serious use), or wait for the .42 version that will
probably be released in the coming week.
