Photo Story 3 - storage space, memory and... number of images?

What is the limit to the number of images one can use? I have seen references
in postings to maximums of 200 and 300, but my own experience is confusing. My most recent wp3 has rather less than 200 images. But on moving to Step
3. "Generating video in the .wmv creation process", I get a message that
there is not enough storage available to complete the operation. On a second
attempt I get the message that there is not enough memory, or that programme
files are missing or corrupted.
This puzzles me because my previous wp3 had well over 200 images and yet
built without trouble into a wmv. I have tried reinstalling PS3, and have
increased virtual memory to 2GB, but this has not helped. I am now remaking
the current wp3, adding only 10 images at a time and testing as I go, but
this seems an unnecessarily clumsy approach, and will it really help?. Can
the problem be that I have kept all previously-made wmv files on my hard
disk? Where exactly IS the storage space, and when does the maximum drain
on memory come? I'd appreciate comment from more advanced users or anyone who
has had a similar experience!

there are 2 limits in project size.....

the 300 pictures is one that is easy to monitor and when you try to add one
more, you'll get a pop-up note about being at your limit.

the other limit is a project complexity issue which is tied into your system
memory (RAM + virtual memory).... this limit is like Movie Maker's in that
it depends not just on the contents of your project, but on the motion
settings you use. I can get the same error message using just one high
resolution picture with certain motion settings... and changing the settings
resolves it. If you zoom into any high rez pictures and pan across them
slowly but staying tightly zoomed in, you'll use more memory than the
default motion settings will use.

the error message doesn't tell you the real reason.... system memory

Thanks a lot, PapaJohn! I thought I was going nuts - I could download
pictures at random, quickly, in batches, without setting duration or
movement, 250 or more, and bang! Two minutes later there was a wmv as
pretty as you could wish! But my artfully-designed project with
carefully-judged durations, artistic motion, and less than 200 pix, was being
rejected! What on earth could be happening?I had an idea it might be something to do with my images, but not that it
was related to their complexity... Thanks! I'll be able to sleep tonight!
