Photo Story 3 corrupting files

First time user to Photo Story 3.
I have created a story on Photo Story 3 and saved it after just having
imported 240 photos. Tried opening the file and Photo Story couldn't open
selected project file because it is corrupted. So started again from scratch
and added some text to the photos. Saved. Came back again and Photo Story
couldn't open selected project file because it is corrupted. Tried again but
this time saved more often. Imported photos, added text to all and then
saved to come back later. Opened later and Photo Story couldn't open
selected project file because it is corrupted.

This is VERY PAINFUL.

OS is XP Home. Have 1GB memory and 240 gb drive.
What could possibly cause this to happen? Is there any way to recover the
corrupted file?

Haven't even been able to add effect and sound yet. Will it explode again?

What exact steps are you using to
reopen the file?

Are you attempting to open the .wp3
project file or the .wmv movie file?

Does the .wmv file play in Windows
Media Player?

Try creating a smaller project and see
if the same problem occurs.

Maybe the following links will offer
something useful;

maybe it will be available later in the day)

Thank you so much for your reply. One thing I forgot to mention is that I'm
saving the project into the folder where the photos are located and not the
default folder for Photo Story 3. Would this cause the problem?
What exact steps are you using to
reopen the file?

I've tried two ways; double clicking on the .wp3 file and also opening the
application and choosing edit project. The latter is what I've been using
the most.

Are you attempting to open the .wp3
project file or the .wmv movie file?

Just the .wp3. Haven't been able to get to the point to make a .wmv movie
file yet unless it makes it automatically.

Does the .wmv file play in Windows
Media Player?

Can't see a .wmv file. Is it created automatically?
Try creating a smaller project and see
if the same problem occurs.

I'll try but I really don't want several smaller projects to have to open to
view all. I don't have the means right now to purchase a third party app to
stitch them together. Maybe latter, under the gun to get it done now.
Maybe the following links will offer
something useful;

I'll look into these, THANKS!!!!
Would you know of another good app for creating slide shows with nifty
effects and be able to create DVDs?

Do both of these methods result in the

You may have some .wmv files...they are
generated when you are on the "Save Your
Story" screen and you click...Next.

Go to...My Documents / My Videos and
see if the .wmv files there.

The idea was to create a smaller file as
an experiment to see if file size and complexity
was the cause of the corruption.

And BTW...you can join several PhotoStory
..wmv movie files using Windows Movie Maker
....and it's already installed on your system.

If you cannot find it...go to...Start / Run...
enter "moviemk.exe" and press Enter.
This will launch Movie Maker.

In Movie Maker....when you are ready to save...
Go to...File / Save Movie File.

I've haven't tried the following programs
but they are reported to be useful:

Photo2DVD Studio

ProShow Gold

both resulted in the corrupted dialog but not every time. I was saving,
closing and then reopening the file thru the app for several times last
night. Finished up adding text to the last few photos, saved, closed and
then reopened and boom - corrupted file. The time it corrupted before I was
doing the same process, adding text to the first few photos, saving and
opening and boom - corrupted file. Before that, add photos to the project,
saved closed and then opened, added more photos saved closed and boom -
corrupted file. Only one time on doubling clicking the file to open, edit a
little, save, close, open and boom corrupted file.

All trials where with 200+ photos. Haven't tried the smaller test cases yet.

OK, I'll check and let you know. Will be later this afternoon.

Great info! also on the other applications. I'll give it a try.

Still wondering if the corrupted file can be repaired as well as the answer
as to how to prevent the corrupted file?

THANKS so much for all your help!!!!!

The problem is that your project is getting too large for Photo Story 3.

Try again, cutting the project in half. (You can join multiple Photo
Story files later if you burn them to DVD.)

Thanks for your answers.

I think all the issues are either resource related
or due to file size / complexity.

If you use the info I have provided you should
have better success. That's the best I can offer.

Hi
I would like to had something to this thread
After having done a complete clean reinstall of winXP Pro on a very
powerfull PC,
I have reintall Photo Story 3, and I am experiencing the same kind of problem
I can create a story in 1 go with no restrictions, save the final film in
whatever def I want and play it back ... perfect but I am unable to save the
project (.wp3), it always stop half way stating some photo story files are
corrupt ... try to reinstall PS3. Did that without success, re-downloaded &
reinstall 3 times, each time removing the program totally with add/remove prg
and running registry cleaner to erase all traces ... still without success.
It is annoying because it implies that you have to do your work all at once,
which is sometimes not possible and you have to do it all over again if you
have a change of mind later. Any tips or suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks

Ok...you have prepared a story and you are
ready to save it......are you saying that any time
you click the "Save Project" button you are
unable to complete the save of the .wp3 file?

When...exactly...do you receive the corrupt
message and what is the exact dialog?

What happens if you create a story with only a
few images?
