Apart from ditching it completely, is there any cure for
a philip starck microsoft optical mouse behaving
verrrrrry erratically? I've tried changing the refresh
rate of the LCD monitor - to no avail. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

What does the refresh rate of the LCD monitor gave to do
with the mouse settings (control panel)?

Not sure who Philip Starck is, but you should have a mouse
driver and be able to set some details. If it is a wireless
mouse you could have radio interference, weak batteries.
All mice have problems with bad wires, loose contacts
internally. And you could have a bad monitor or over-worked
video that isn't fast enough to keep up with the mouse.

Who is Philip Starck?

I read somewhere that erratic mouse behaviour can be
affected by screen refresh rates. Philip Starck is a
world famous designer who has developed a new microsoft
mouse. It comes with no drivers - it's essentially a
microsoft USB mouse. The monitor is an Iiyama Prolite
E431S and the video card a NVidia GeForce 2 MX/MX400

Perhaps I'll try to find an updated driver from microsoft.

Thanks for your help.

You'd use Intellipoint 5.2 for the Starck MS Mouse.

However, Intellipoint isn't likely to fix your issues.

Does this issue persist on multiple computers? If so, it might be a
hardware issue.

To the original OP, if it is a hardware issue, you might want to call MSFT
Parts and Replacement at 1-800-360-7561
Make sure you have your mouse and proof of purchase on hand when you call.
