Phantom problems causing headaches

Dazed and Confused

XP MCE SP1 HP Media Center PC

Ever since I ran chkdsk on the hard drive, it has had several problems
that I cannot resolve so I will ask about both in this one message.

Firstly and most daunting, the taskbar is a solid bar all the way
across with no access to anything, cant click on the start button,
change the clock, the only thing it will allow access to is the taskbar
properties. I tried changing from classic to traditional XP type start
button, my efforts were futile.

Lastly, once opened, will not populate at all, booting into safe mode
will not allow access to any of the profiles either, even when using
the built in administrator profile. I cannot login to any of the other
profiles except for the one I was logged into when the problems
surfaced. System Restore will not allow me to access anything, it says
that the PC must be rebooted first.

Please help, I don't want to do a complete restore on this machine.

Thanks in advance,

Tino

First, I cant get to the start button, so I used taskmgr. I ran the
scan, it did not ask for the CD, nor did ask to reboot. It simply went
away once it finished. I did the reboot and nothing has changed. Any
other ideas?

Thanks
Tino
