Phantom e-mails sent

I use HP Home, Outlook Express and Norton AV. Each time I
start up, I get a message that Norton is examining my
outgoing e-mail for viruses. I'm not (knowingly) sending
a message, and none show in Sent Messages or my Outbox. I
am firewalled (MS firewall), Windows updated, and AV
current. AV scan is clean. Got Blaster a few months ago,
and removed with Symantec Removal Tool same day.

Any reason for these messages? Help is appreciated.

I have seen this problem on a few of my customer's
machines. In many of the cases it was due to either
Spyware or a hidden worm.

In the case of the Spyware, download Ad-Aware from
www.lavasoft.com (its free)

And to check for unknown viruses, go to www.mcafee.co.uk
and download their tool for searching for the latest
worms. (can't remember what its called now!!!)
