Hello!
I have been beating my head over this prob for over a week now. I have the
common issue of Windows Installer constantly running for no apparent reason.
==I've tried looking at the registry: I have all the keys recommended.
==I've tried disabling Installer thru Services.msc/mmc. No difference.
==Editing Group Policy (according to an internet help page) is for XP Pro..
I have Home.
==Double checked MSIEXEC version... I have 3.0, the latest.
==I've tried SP2 SDK... did nothing.
==From reading this board, I downloaded/installed the Installer Cleanup:
Made no noticable difference in anything. I'm still wondering the point of
this.
==I've tried various CMD prompts with msiexec in an attempt to toubleshoot...
....but now that I've turned the logging on, I can't turn it off and now it's
cluttering my TEMP files.
1. I need to turn logging off ASAP. Anyone know how? This would make me
happiest at the moment.
2. Short of reinstalling Windows XP Home, are there other fixes I haven't
tried?
Will reinstalling SP2 cause problems? Is that a viable option without
starting all over again?
Thank you thank you thank you! I'm frustrated beyond belief and cannot
fathom redoing my system.
