permission to format

I am the only user of this computer, I am the Administrator, but I am not
allowed to format a disc-- I am told that I do not have permission to perform
this task.
I HATE VISTA!!!!!

what type of disk?
floppy, hard drive, CD, DVD?

DVD/CD drive, I was able to format until recently. There is a red circle
with a slash through it, like it is not there. When I try to change the
Security, it tells me I do not have permission.

yes I have, I have tried several different disks, nothing works. I am a
Property Manager and I handle hundreds of properties, I need to back up
everyday. Why do I not have permission, I don't think the disk is the main
problem here.

Now that we know you have tried more than one disk, I don't believe it's a
disk problem either.
Are you using the Windows burning engine or 3rd party software? Do you have
3rd party burning software (Nero, Roxio) Installed?

I have tried many different disks, nothing works. I am not allowed to change
security so I have access to the folder. I have no access to the E drive at
all. Please help me. I need to back up my program everyday. I am a Property
Manager with 150 properties. Afraid I am going to lose information.
