performance monitor shows all counters 0 - I am in the admin group

I getting desperate. ANy help would be much appreciated.
I am trying to use the performance monitor but all the counters values come
as 0. The red line that's supposed to be time doesn't even move.
I am stuck...

I can read the perfmon counters for this computer from another computer...
Wierd the computer doesn't display anything in terms of counter values but
from another computer I can display these values.
