Pent III cpu on Pent II mobo??

Will a Pent III 500 mhz cpu work on an MSI-6119 440BX Pent II
motherboard?

I happened to acquire a PCCHIPs M726 mobo with this Pent III cpu
installed and it works at 500 mhz, despite the fact the the M726
is--as far as I can tell--a Pent II mobo. 100mhz bus and multiplier
set to 5x.

The MSI is a superior board with actual documentation and would like
to use it to upgrade my parents computer.

Hi,

As long as that board can handle 500Mhz there should not be a problem, if
there are Jumpers or DIP switches to change the multiplier, make sure you
set it to the correct speed.

Hope this helps.

Pentium II motherboards had a FSB of 66mhz. This board is probably goes both
way, 100 or 66 fsb depending on the jumpers.

<cough cough> P2-350, 400, 450, and 500 ... all with 100Mhz FSB.

your right what the hell was I thinking
only Pentiums 2s under 350 had an fsb of 66 and the bx boards would accept
both
thanks for correcting me
