PDF Organizer

There was a program posted earlier called Docsvault for organizing
documents.

Does anyone organize their PDF files that have been downloaded from the
Internet that may allow searching them for words or phrases?

I like downloading PDF files of the various motherboards that I have or
other programs but it would be nice to have them indexed in some manner
so that a search might list the PDF's with what I was searching for.

Thanks.

I have been using Docsvault Home Edition (Free) for about a year and
find it to be a great help. I scan a lot of documents into it and file
them within its structure.

I have a folder I call PDF Library where I download a lot of pdf
documents. Most of the better desktop search agents - google, copernic,
x1 - does a reasonable job of searching through them. They only fail
when the pages are text images and not printed to a pdf printer.

Hope this helps

PDF-Explorer is in use here, has a nice database feature to store the
PDF-information in (the yellow grid is the 'temp' area, the area where
info is stored before it's transported to the green work grid. The
program displays info like Title; Author; Subject; Keywords. You can use
the program to search for info in the PDF file; view the file (in
QuickView). The current version is 1.5.0.51 and the "About" box says it's
still in beta, runs stable on Windows 2000 SP4, though! The program is
available from: http://homepage.oniduo.pl/pdfe

Thanks to both of you for the replies. I will try these programs.

I end up downloading lots of PDF files for various programs but I have
always thought it would be handy to organize them in some manner. In the
past, after downloading, I have just stord the files on a CD to archive
them and then I end up forgetting about them.

Thanks.

It's nagware though. You must download the most recent beta.

Qutickle, I think it might be even abandoned; the last 'beta' was from last
year. However the program does what it should do (and as described in my
previous message: even a few things extra!); after the two line message
"This program is rather old. You should download the newest version." it
works like a charm! And in fact it has some unique features that I didn't
see in other programs.

To Frank Hahn: I know exactly what you mean, I have collected quite a nice
number of these myself over time, and it can be a chore to go through all
CD's to find one specific PDF. And this program might just give that little
extra help one would need! (As you may notice, I am quite enthusiastic
about this program!)

I use Copernic Desktop Search. Excellent results. Previews the doc and
lets you jump to the occurences.

Another freeware with pdf search capacity: wilbur
