PC to TV Sound and Video Probs!

I have hooked up my PC to my TV so that I can watch DVDs
from my PC on my TV. I am using an S-Video out cable (8
Meters Long) and a cord for sound. I have two problems.
The first is when I hook up the S-video cable to the TV,
whether the cable is hooked into anything else or not, it
produces this low humming noise through the speakers! I
can turn up the volume of the movie and kind of drown it
out but it is still annoying. The second problem is with
the video. When I am trying to watch a movie, at the
darker parts you can see a wide, faint, white line go up
the screen. It does this the whole movie but is only
noticeable when the lighting in the movie is low. Are
these problems normal? Do I have bad equipment? It there
anyhting I can do to improve this?

Thanks

S-video cable may not have proper sheilding causing the noise thru the speakers
Altho there is no max length for viedo cable it could be to long
for the Video issue try changing the contrast/brightness in display properties that could help if this doesnt then it may well be the cable your using thats causing both probs.

Sounds like a ground loop, i just bought an isolator from
radioshack as i was having similar problems with sound
into my reciever causing interfernce on all my equipment.
don't know if they make such a thing for s-video.

The white lines, most likely 2 going on the screen are what we call Hum
bars, wich
is the same noise you getting at the speakers.
