PC to PC networking

I have two computers running in XP Pro each with a D-Link
DFE- TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (rev.C). I tried to
connect the two PC's using Cat5 cable and I followed the
networking wizzard, but the computers can't see the other
computer. Please help me as soon as possible,

You do need a crossover cable if you are going to connect two machines
directly without a hub or switch. You can verify if it is a regular or
crossover cable by holding the two ends side by side, both pointing the same
way and with the same side up. Look through the clear RJ45 jack at the wire
colors. If they both look identical, with the same colors in the same pin
locations, you have a REGULAR cable. If some of the wires on the outside
pins of one jack are going to the middle pins on the other jack, you have a
crossover cable. It is pretty easy to find illustrations of this on the
Internet.
Good luck

.
i made sure it is a crossover cable, that the comps are
using the same subnet and that they belong to the same
network. however, i still can't fix the problem. i used
the network setup disk but there was no difference. if
someone could help me fix the problem, i will appreciate
it very much. thanks in advance,

Make sure you have file and printer sharing enabled on the NIC properties.
Also make sure you have the Guest account enabled on each machine. Also
make sure both computers belong to the same Workgroup and do NOT have the
same computer name. Good luck
