PC slows down after few hours of running

Trying to trouble shoot a PC that slows down after a couple hours.

P4 3.2ghz 1 gb ram 80gb HD.

PC is on network at a business. Boot up computer and log on. Everythig
works OK, at least for a few hours. Initially we can access files on the
server with no problem. After a few hours when we try to open the files it
takes more than a few minutes just to open a file. Sometime we loose the
association with an icon. Click on the icon, up comes the file searching
icon (the micorsoft flashlight scrolling back and forth) and it can't find
the file.

So we reboot and evething works. Few hours later same thing.

Can anybody give me a clue as to where to look for a reason for this. We
thought maybe it was the google desktop we installed. It indexed the
computer and all it's mapped drives. Made it easy to find the files we
needed on server. Uninstalled that, No help. Not really sure where to
start....

Have run antivirus and adaware, Find no problems....

Thanks

Mike

How much RAM

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

Do you leave your computer on 24/7?

Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it
is more informative.

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Gerry,

Thanks for the reply. Won't be a work till Monday night. Will get all your
answers when I return to work. Yes we leave computer on 24/7. Want to be
able to access it from on the road if needed. But of course right now it is
off because they are painting the office.

Simple solution is to restart the computer before you start work in the
office. This gives a "refreshed" computer for work in the office but
leaves it available when you are out of the office.
