Hello!

When i switched on my PC this moring WinXP Home has been running very
very slow!

It takes ages to login and for the desktop to load. Navigating the
start menu and opening programs is also taking along time. Although
after the programs load (i.e Internet Explorer they seem to run okay,
until i switch program or open something new) Everything was running
so much faster b4 today, and i have had my PC for over a year.

I have WINXP Home
Pentium 3 866mhz
256mb RAM
32mb graphics card.

I have emptied the startup programs in msconfig.
deleted any suspicious files.
uninstalled programs
emptied recycle bin
run Adaware6
Run System restore
search Registry for suspicious files

i ran task manager and looked if any processes where using up much
memory, but nothing was???

i logging in as different users and it was still running slow.

I ran WINXP in safe mode and windows was running at normal speed.

what is left to try?? could be hardware be damaged somehow.

Please help me, i appreciate any replies.

Thanks

Luke

I can tell you that it far from a hadrware issue, I have
the student XP PRO version and my load time was great,
they I decided to dual boot and re formatted and
reinstalled a full XP PRO ver 2002 and now I have a slow
load up, once all programs and tasks have loaded it runs
like a charm.

best of luck

Probably not much to add,but I would run a virus
check, then disk cleanup, check volumn for errors and then
defrag. In that order. Also be sure all screen savors and
any new mouse/curser programs are off. Also check for heat
related problems...Good luck.

I have some very good success with EasyCleaner from Toni Arts.

Set it to look for unnecessary files. Get rid of them.
set it to look for registry dead ends. Get rid of them.

thanks for your replies. i found out what was the matter.
I was in DXdiag and i noticed that the RAM was only showning as 64mb.
I opened up the computer took out the ram and put it back in again and
its working now. One of the ram PCBs must have come loose.

Merry Xmas

Luke
