PC freezes a lot! please help.

I have an AMD athlon XP 2600+ based pc with a soltek
motherboard, an nvidia geforce 4 mx 64mb vga, 1GB of ddr
ram and a 40gig hard drive.
When i try to rip a cd from media player or any other
ripping software the pc just freezes in the middle of the
operation. Pc also freezes while i'm using microsoft
word. Freezes while im playin flight simulator 2004,
freezes while i'm playin gta3... this is crazy! WHat
could be the cause? please anyone who knows helP!

First run the system file checker tool, click start, run,

and type in; " sfc /scannow " with that space after sfc,
and it will ask for your XP CD to copy any needed files.
Then run maintenance, such as disk cleanup and the disk
defragmenter tools every month at least. Also be sure to
update all device drivers (mainly the display driver) and
also update your anti-virus program, then run a full
system scan for viruses and worms, as they can cause this.
Check for good cooling air flow and fans function too.
