Hello,

I have been trying to find memory for my motherboard (Asus PC-DL Deluxe) I'm
trying to purchase 1GB sticks DDR PC2700 333mhz.

I read that I need low-density memory. Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone
know of a site to purchase this memory? Could some on give comments on this
memory I found.

184 PIN Memory

2.7 GB sec

333Mhz

2.5 Volt Module

DIMM (DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY 128 X 4 High Density)

Non-ECC, Non-Parity

CAS Latency 2.5

Operating voltage: 2.5V

Thanks,

Mark

First of all, the datasheet for the Intel 875P Northbridge says:

"128-Mb, 256-Mb, 512-Mb technologies implemented as x8, x16 devices"

An example of a valid chip at the 1GB module level would be 64M x8
An example of a valid chip at the 512MB module level would be 32M x8

The 64M x8 chip is a 512Mb memory chip. The 32M x8 chip is 256Mb.

Intel doesn't want any x4 chips on an unbuffered module, like the
modules used on your board. The only place a x4 chip is really
valid and useful, is on a registered module. While you may find
some unapproved modules for sale on the Internet, and they may
be a few dollars cheaper, you'll regret trying to use them.

There are three kinds of memory modules -

unbuffered
unbuffered with ECC
registered with ECC

If the application for your computer required enhanced reliability,
you can make all the modules on the motherboard "unbuffered with ECC",
and the ECC feature allows single bit memory errors to be corrected.
Otherwise, using all unbuffered, or a mix of unbuffered and
unbuffered with ECC, results in the ECC feature being disabled.
Either "unbuffered" or "unbuffered with ECC" will give you a
computer that works.

So, no registered DIMMs, and no unbuffered DIMMs with x4 chips for
your motherboard.
