I try to set a password and open the data base as exclusive through the open
file icon but Access still says that I need to have the DB open as exclusive.
What is going on??

Are you saying that you are trying set a database password but that you
can't open the database exclusively to do so? I've never set one but it
doesn't seem unlikely that you would need to have the database open
exclusively.

You might check the directory of the database file for the presence of
another file named as your database but with an LDB extension. If it's
there, I don't believe you will be able to open exclusively. There are two
reasons that it would be there: 1) someone (even another instance of Access
on your own PC) has the database open or 2) the last time the database was
opened Access ended abnormally and didn't get a chance to delete the LDB.
If you can convince yourself that the first possibility is not the case,
then attempt to delete the LDB.

John, did you get my email about how to send me the files? If not,
please email me again via the google groups interface. I did get the
one you send before. If you just haven't got around to it yet, that's
cool, there's no hurry on my part. Cheers, TC
