password to open outlook

Is there :

1) a way to password protect Outlook to open it (similar
to OE)? (not the password to get the email on the server
but to open it up initially).

2) a way to have multiple identities in Outlook (similar to
OE)?

1 Right click on Outlook Today, select Properties and then Advanced. Set
your password from there and do not forget it.

2. Outlook uses Profiles, not Identities. To set up your profiles, go to
Control Panel, Mail Icon, Show Profiles. Set the option to Prompt for
Profile there as well. You will need to close Outlook and reopen it using
the preferred profile for that session.

#1 worked great. Just what I was looking for!

#2, I don't see any "show profiles". When I go to the
mail icon and open it, I get the "internet accounts" where
I can add/configure various pop accounts that I would access.

Maybe I'm missing something on this still. What I'm looking
for is that if I call up outlook, I could choose between to
different users when it starts. I can do this with two
different "windows" profiles, but I'd rather have one
windows profile, and 2 different accounts in outlook that
I could use. Is there a way?

What version of Outlook are you using?

Presuming OL2000 or earlier, you'll need to set up Outlook in
corporate/workgroup mode, not Internet Mail Only. (help | about will tell
you which mode you're in).
See http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/choosingmode.htm

Correct, I have OL2000, and it is setup in Internet Mail Only.

Looks like I can't use CW mode as I use POP and IMAP
account access. Is there any way to use CW mode
and still have IMAP?

Only Outlook 2000 had the IMO/Corp dicotomy. Earlier versions and later
versions had no such distiction that I can find. Ergo, the OP is using
Outlook 2000.

Nope. Outlook Express does IMAP better than Outlook, though.

Outlook 98 also had the separate modes.

Correct, OL2000. OL98 also has similar distinction between
the two modes.
