Password recovery in theory.....Question..

I help a few people here and there (since I lost my job) with PC
problems. I have the Linux boot CD that at times works and can change
the Admin password.

1. Would it be possible boot using Barts or Windows PC and delete the
SAM file in XP and reboot and have the ability to log in if a user lost
their password?

2. Or if they recently changed their password and forgot it but
recalled the old one, could I just copy the SAM file back (into
Windows/System32/Config/ from one of the Restore points found under
System Volume Info?

Thanks,
Patty

Why not logon as administrator and reset the users password?
