Password protection/validation in excel 2000

Hi, I've been struggling with a solution and wondered if anyone here ha
a clever idea.

I have a spreadsheet for which in one of the corners lists the name o
the person who wrote the sheet. I would like to protect the cell wher
it gives credit to the author so that it cannot be changed or deleted.

I'd like to do something like this: password protect the cell with th
name of the author, and use non-password protection on the rest of th
sheet. It is okay for the user to unprotect, but I don't want them t
take out the author cell.

I have tried to use validation on the cell and almost got it to work.
The cell states "By: Mr. X" so I made the text validation minimu
10000, maximum 50000. This works (it cannot be edited), but th
problem is someone can just clear it with the delete key. I tried t
use the ignore blanks button off and that did not work either.

If this is at all possible, I'd appreciate the help.

I am using Excel 2000. Thanks

Hi
AFAIK you can't do this. one workaround: Lock/protect only this
specific cell (Format all other cells without protection) and protect
the entire worksheet with a password
