Password prob.

I am trying to set up a changed username & password in IE6. I go to
Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Settings then change the username without
any problem. Then I change the password & click ok, but when I then reenter
Settings my original password has reinserted itself. How do I fix this - any
clues?

If you want to change your username and password for your dial up connection,
you can click on yours connection icon, enter username and password
corresspondingly and then dial to your ISP, after that your settings will be
saved...

Yes - that is the way to change the username/passname correctly as I had
already done.
However when you display the settings via the Internet Connection Settings
the password asterisks seems to indicate 16 characters - but it would seem
that this is not my original password as I first thought & the new password
is incorporated in there some where. Everything works ok, tahnks for the
suggestion in any case.

Unlike Win9x/ME, in WinXP the number of the password asterisks after
restart the program has nothing with the actual password entered. You
can enter 1-symbol, or 8-symbol, or 20-symbols password -- but after
restart the number of asterisks will be the same in all cases.

That is done because of the security reasons, in order not to give to
the potential system violator any information about the password: even
about its length.

So don't pay attention to the number of asterisks, and simply continue
without password re-entering.
