Password Autocomplete

I am running WinXP SP2 and I noticed that recently, the system lost the
ability to store passwords. I went into IE Explorer and in Internet
Options/Content, I cleared Autocomplete and restarted IE Explorer. Then I
re-enabled Autocomplete to see if that would fix the problem. But when I
need to enter a password, I still don't get the Windows popup asking me if I
want to save this password.
Does anyone know of a fix for this?
