partition NFTS or FAT system

i have a pemtium 3 with 8gb,i want to put a clean [xp home] install on it ,i
use it only for e-mail,music,pictures and games...should i format the
partition to a NFTS file system..or should i use the FAT file system...i
would like to have as much free disk space as possible to store as many
pics.,songs and games as possible..thx for any info possible

NTFS.. do not use fat!!

you did say an 8gb HD?????????????
My XP installation with very few added programs never mind the saving of
pics,songs or games uses up 7GB of HD space.
I suggest you buy a bigger and I mean BIGGER HD.

well my xp installation with macafee,webcam,limewire,messenger,500 pics only
uses 4.28 gigs

Either should be fine on such a small hard drive.

A smallish installation I did on one PC had such a small partition as the
size of your hard drive. Had similar purposes as yours. Its in NTFS
format.

If a non-boot partition, suggest FAT32 to allow repairs in case XP is the
source preventing repair. I ran into that not long ago.

I'm sure you'll have some problems fitting XP on an 8gig H.D. My XP
home install with some apps in Program Files (not all) takes up 8.3
gig.
