Does Partition Magic 8 work when installed in Vista?

When running from booted floppies?

Hi,

No, it does not work with a Vista volume, it is not compatible. Try an
alternate product such as terabyte's BootIT NG or Acronis' Disk Director,
both of which work well with Vista volumes.

You might try the GParted Live CD - chances are it will do what you need.

Would not trust any Linux partitioning as it does not fully support NTFS.

It should work.

My PM-7 works just fine when booted from floppies.
I usually use Acronis Disk Director but it is kinda brain-dead when it comes
to state of the art hardware. It fails to even see my RAID. Good 'ol PM-7
sees it just fine.

That's incorrect. Current linux kernels fully support ntfs.

Where is this documented?

I'd use GParted or Partition Magic on a clean disk, but not on one on which
is already installed.

I agree that it would be OK to use on a clean drive, but I'm getting a
notebook with Vista already installed on a 320GB drive.

Oh well, a few minutes ago, I ordered Acronis Disk Director.

It's a good thing you did: Symantec's Paritition Magic 8 simply is NOT
compatible with Windows Vista, nor do they have any plans on making it
compatible with Vista. It seems like Symantec is letting it die on
the vine.

Acronis Disk Director Suite is a very good replacement, and about $40
cheaper than PM8.

The only thing I don't like about it is that the Boot Manager supplied
with it doesn't seem to work very well in Vista.

OR else I've not configured it correctly.

The fact that winxp shows the OS disk label doesn't neccessarily mean that
an o/s is installed.
According to Norton web site PM8, there is no mention of Vista being
supported

Partition Magic 8 isn't compatible with Vista. Like everything Symantec
touch it either doesn't work or causes more problems for the user. One of
the best Imaging applications is Acronis True Image, that is the one I use.

If you can't access the image created by PM 8.0 a re-install may be
necessary.

A bit over the top I'd say. You are entitled to your opinion.

My opinion: Depending on your operating system, Norton Ghost version
10 and 12 are less problematic and do not have a validation process
flaw as does Acronis True Image 10 and 11. No comment on Norton
Ghost 14 or Acronis 2009 as I have no experience with those products
