Hi!
i need a freeware program that allows me to obtain
a bootable floppy with an utility in it to partition and FORMAT IN NTFS
(win2000) an hard disk.

partition is a secondary goal.

if i can boot from floppy, then format a previously created partition "D"
with NTFS (win2000) ... i'll be all right! :)

thanks for any help! :)

I don't believe there are any such programs as NTFS 5.0 is a very
complicated and not totally documented (publicly) file system. The
Linux folks have been trying for the last couple years to get the
ability to safely read/write files to it and have only succeeded by
writing a wrapper around the MS driver.

You can, however, boot from a Windows 2000 or XP install CD, and run
the install to the point where it asks you what partition you want to
use and if you want to format it, let it do so, then cancel the
installation. Since 2000 and XP will install to any partition, you
could use this on a "D" partition.

la mia opinione su quanto ha scritto Richard Steven Hack:

in fact the solution is near that ... (i alway used this "false
installation" as a solution)

in these days i looked for a solution and a guy remembered that from the
win2000 boot cd, there is a consolle ... and from this consolle it is
finally possible to use diskpart and probably also the format command, both
running on NTFS 5.0

:)

some other people mentioned "WinPE" ... but this utility is in WinXP oem or
something like that ... or Win2003 server. ... this solution is not for me
;-)
