parition drive c:

How does one partition Drive C: ? I have an HP Presario with Windows XP
Home Edition. The system works very well, however, I was told that if I
partition the Hard Drive, then my system would boot faster, games would load
faster etc. I understand the logic but can it be done with all of your
programs already installed? I only have my account on Windows XP.

The computer was setup to have a Drive C: where all the system files and
programs are installed and Drive D: for recovery.

My Hard Drive is 80 gigabytes. I would like to have a partition C: for the
system files, D: for my games and E: (which is now my CD: R/W drive) for
other programs.

The only way to partition your existing Drive C partition is with 3rd party
software like Partition Magic. You will gain nothing by creating more
partitions on the same disk drive. There are only 1 set of r/w heads on a
disk drive and it makes no difference if the heads are reading data from a
your C partition or your new E partition, they can only be in 1 place at any
one time.

What I should have said was the disk drive have 1 r/w head per disk surface
but all heads are attached to a single servo mechanism so they all move at
the same time. Same conclusion though, you won't gain speed by partitioning
the same disk.
