First to Kelly and Doug - you Rock! Your sites have
pulled me out of the fire more than once recently!
Here is the problem and troubleshooting efforts:
Issue: The PC will not open MSPaint.
OS: Windows XP V5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp1.020828-1920:
Service Pack 1)
Fault message from the event veiwer: Faulting
application mspaint.exe, version 5.1.2600.1106, faulting
module mfc42u.dll, version 6.0.8665.0, fault address
0x00017103.
Effort:
1. Roll back to pre-report plus one week of client report
of issue. Same error. Also, verified that issue is
specific to machine/OS rather than user profile. (User
does not have issue with app while logged on other
machines in local OU within this domain.)
2. Removed and reinstalled the application from
Add/Remove and DFSROOT (SITE INSTALL SHARE). No fix.
3. The system would not allow me to rename the directory.
Replaced the files in this directory of affected machine
with files from mine (machines are same specs). Still
getting the error.
4. Tried registering the dll again, no fix. Moved all of
the mfc* dlls out of the directory and launched paint
again, no fix.
5. For kicks - with fingers crossed - ran detect and
repair on Office suite. No change.
6. Search Premier for info. while reinstalling latest
hotfixes. Neither solved problem or provided clues
Suggestions?
Thanks!
