"Pages" Property in Explorer "Details" View

In Explorer, when using the "Details" view of files, you can choose which
fields are shown. I would like it to show how many pages each document is,
so I chose to show "Pages" as one of the fields. The problem is that
Explorer is telling me that every document is 1 page. It doesn't seem to be
reflecting the actual length of the documents. Is this a bug, or am I
missing something?

I do regularly turn on/off document protection for the files as I work on
them. Might that be causing a problem?

I'm using Office 2003, and XP Home SP1 (haven't taken the dive yet).

Thanks for any hints.

I just tried this in Word 2003, and I see accurate page counts for a couple
of files and 1 for the rest in a sample folder. If I choose Properties view
instead, I'm seeing the same page counts there. I'm not sure what is making
the difference. In one folder that had a non-1-page file, that file was
created in Word 8.0, but the two I first saw were Word 10.0. Word 11.0 docs
aren't any better. Almost every one I looked at showed 1 page, and one file
that I know has several pages was showing 7 words and 50 characters. I
suspect that the DocProperties just aren't accurately reflected in these
views.
