pagefile is corrupted or missing

Ron Dowda

Unfortunally I got into a big hurry and selected to shut-
down the system while it was booting up. In doing so, I
have lost the page file "pagefile.sys" or the setup in the
win2000 page called "performance options" have changed and
the amount of virtual memory is so low that it does not
allow the system boot up.

It boots up to the point of starting to load the user
settings just after completing the login screen.

Is there some way to restore the pagefile.sys settings?

I've tried the following:

1. reloading win2000 on the hard drive
2. trying a dos bootable floppy
3. building win2000 onto another hard drive and trying to
search for the pagefile.sys so I can edit it, maybe.

I don't want to loose all that I have on the hard drive.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Ron

Have you tried pressing F8 when prompted & opted on of the options below?

1. Choosing SAFE MODE
2. choosing Last Known Good Congiguration

Hi Ron,
The pagefile (pagefile.sys) could be corrupted. You may want to try deleting
the pagefile via the Recovery Console; it will be re-created automatically
the next time you boot.
