PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA - PC unusable

I am running Windows XP Home on an HP Celeron 1.3GHz
Pavilion 502n. It came with one 128MB DIMM. I added a
second 256MB DIMM and when I turn it on, it brings up a
screen telling me Windows could not start and gives me
options such as "use last known configuration" and
three "safe mode" options. None of these choices work. In
all cases, the computer reboots and brings up that screen
again.

I inserted a Windows XP install CD in the CD drive and
brought up Recovery mode, and it brings up a blue screen
indicating there is a problem with file ntfs.sys and
indicates a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error.

I removed the 256MB DIMM and tried my old 128MB DIMM in
both slots. I even tried removing the 128MB DIMM and just
using the 256MB DIMM. I get the same results. I DO take
precautions against static so I don't think that's the
problem. I have no other comparable DIMMs to swap out to
see if they fix the problem.

By the way, when the PC boots up (before the crash), it
checks the memory and both DIMMs pass.

This PC has become completely unusable! HELP please!

I'm reposting this because I received no responses. I'm
amazed that there is so little support for this type of
problem in the Microsoft knowledge base. Is my PC dead?
