Page x of y numbering

I want to using this method of numbering with a title page. The title page
is set up as 0 count without a page number showing. However, my "y" count
includes the title page.

Is there a way to make it so the y count excludes the cover page? Right
now, my last page reads 22 of 23. Obviously, not what I was hoping for! I'm
using Word 2003.

The page number and number of pages are fields. You can change the number of
pages field so that it subtracts 1 from the real number of pages. To do this:

1. Go to the header or footer where you page numbering is found.

2. Press Alt+F9 to toggle field codes. Now you will see: { PAGE } of {
NUMPAGES }.

3. Select "{ NUMPAGES }" and press Ctrl+F9 to add an extra set of field
brackets around { NUMPAGES } (the field brackets cannot be typed; you must
use Ctrl+F9).

4. Between the two start brackets,{ {, type an equal sign.

5. Between the two end brackets, } }, type "- 1" (without the quotation
marks). Now you have:

{ = { NUMPAGES } - 1 }

6. Press Alt+F9 to toggle the field codes again. If the number is not
correct now, press F9 to update fields.

If you have more sections in your document with "Same as previous" turned
off, you will need to change the NUMPAGES field in those sections too. You
can copy and paste the field you just changed.
