Page numbering

i need to format my preface pages with roman numerals and the rest of the
document with Arabic numerals. What should i do? whenever i change the
numbering type of the pages in the preface the whole document style of
numbering changes.

Insert a section break between preface and the rest of the document add a
\*Roman or \*Arabic switch to the page field in the header/footer of the
appropriate section thus {Page \*Roman}

Insert a Section Break between preface and the rest of the document
and click the Format Page Number button on the Header & Footer toolbar
(or corresponding tab on the Ribbon), which appears when you are in a
header or footer, and choose the format (roman, arabic, or other
choices) from the drop-down.
