Page not found Win XP Internet Explorer 6

I recently ran my adware program and it detected some files
from removal. I felt I did a good validation that non were
linked to microsft. But after I removed them my internet
explorer will no longer connect to the web. I keep getting
"page not found". I'm able to use another browser to access
the web and tried making several changes to MS explorer but
I've had no luck. Any ideas ?
