On start up in windows xp, a padlock appears and a message asking for my password, any ideas welcome. Running XP on a laptop with AVG only,ADSL internet.

I know my password, but having used the computer for about 3 years, I am worried by the sudden appearance of this padlock, wonder if it is a scam.
