package wizard

I have OfficeProfessionalEdition2003 installed on my computer. I also just
installed Visual Studio 2008 Professional edition. I developed a database
program that I would like to distribute and I'm trying to learn what to do. I
read that I should use the package wizard:

To start the Package Wizard, click Start, point to Programs (or All
Programs), point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Access 2003
Developer Extensions, and then click Package Wizard.

When I point to Microsoft Office, various programs are listed (Word, Access,
Excel, etc.) but Microsoft Office Access 2003 Developer Extensions are not
listed as a choice. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I suspect that you have not installed the "Microsoft Office Access 2003
Developer Extensions". See Access MVP Tony Toews' page that details the
various flavors for each version of Access:
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/developereditionversions.htm

Search your hard drive for the file named "WZADE.MDE", to see if this was
ever installed. Here is the target for a shortcut to the Package Wizard on my
system:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2003\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\ADE11\WZADE.MDE" /runtime /ro /x macStartPKW

I should point out that office professional and even the corporate
enterprise edition of access 2003 does not include the access developer
extensons.
I also just
installed Visual Studio 2008 Professional edition.

Visual studio 2008 is is not going to work for an older version of access
anyway. I should point out that visual studio NEVER did include the
developer extensions for access. So if you did in fact did find and install
visual studio 2003 professional edition or visual studio 2008 that is NOT
going to help yu nor will you find the access developer extensions in those
software pacakges.

I should probably point out that you never do have to install any part of
visual studio to get the access developer's extensions. and with the
information you given so far it's quite clear that you've not installed to
access developer tensions. So for access 2003 the developer extensions are
complete separate instal from any of the other parts of visual studio.
Installing visual studio will not help here.

The problem here is that you don't have the access 2003 developer extensions
and installing visual studio is not going to help.

I should further point out that access 2007 developer tools are free
(Obviously this only helps if you have access 2007).

For previous versions of office you'll have to get your hands on the VSTO
extensions for office.

What you actually need is explained in the following web link.

So then, where do I find the developer extensions for Office Professional
Edition2003.

The file WZADE.MDE is not present on my hard drive.

Thanks,
Mark

It is part of VSTO (Visual Studio Tools for Office) 2003. Maybe the
2005 version. If you can locate that somewhere then fine. However
that could be very tough to locate now.

Hi Mark,

I don't believe that Microsoft sells this software any longer. Your options
include purchasing Access 2007 (either alone, or as a part of Office 2007
professional) and then downloading the developer extensions for free, or
attempting to purchase a (hopefully) legal copy of the developer extensions
for Access 2003 from a second-hand source.
