P5GDC-V CDROM bootable when connect to ITE

I have 2 hard drive connected to primary IDE channel. 2 DVD drives connect
to Primary of ITE channel. I couldn't boot from any of the DVD drives. If
I moved 1 DVD drive to slave of primary IDE channel, it booted.
Seem like one cannot boot from CD drive when it connect to ITE channels?

Thanks for your input.

In the BIOS (IT8212 module), I found a text string
that says "A bootable CDROM was found".

That implies that the IT8212 can detect a CD drive.
I have also read some release notes for some version of
IT8212 driver, and those release notes are quite interesting,
because they show that the IT8212 development staff were doing
this stuff for the very first time (for them). In the release
notes it stated that they had achieved full ATAPI support.

A thing you can try, is "Interrupt 19 Capture" [Enabled].
AFAIK this allows modules like the IT8212 BIOS module, to
capture calls to INT 0x13 hex, which is the INT that is used
to read storage devices. You might find the CDROM that way.

This is just a guess, no guarantees.

I also got "A bootable CDROM was found" message at the IT8212 BIOS screen.
It booted from the CD and gave me a blue screen. I called ASUS tech support
and he said CDROM wouldn't boot from IT8212, have to put it on the primary
ATA.

So what I did was to put A boot hard drive and a CD drive on the primary ATA
(BIOS recognized both) ; 2nd HDD and 2nd CD drive on the IT8212. it boot
from CD drive now and OS installed.

BTW, the on-board sound is very good. I couldn't tell the differences with
my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro.
The on-board graphic is so slow for 3D game like Need for Speed Underground
2. Do you have any trick to improve the performance of the onboard video?
Did you set the video memory to be a fixed value?

Thanks

Hmm. Maybe a BIOS update some day will incorporate new IT8212
BIOS code, and fix this problem.

The Intel GMA900 build-in graphics core is good enough for
business applications or web surfing, but doesn't have enough
horsepower for heavy gaming. You'll need a video card to do that.

For GMA900, you would need to install the "chipset inf",
the "graphics accelerator driver", and DirectX from Microsoft.
You have likely done that, and that is the best you can do.
Playing with the BIOS settings might make some difference, but
the hardware is simply not gaming class stuff.

This page should answer your performance question. Your Northbridge
is in the same class as the 865G shown in the charts here.
