P5GD1 related question

Hi,

Umm, I haven't built a computer for a while, and I'm mighty confused
with the new Asus P5GD1 that I have purchased.

I understand that this model has only 1 IDE port, and 2 RAID ports?
The problem is, when I hooked the Western Digital 80gig IDE HD up to
the single IDE port, and then the CDRW up to the the primary RAID
port, the motherboard didn't recognise the CDRW.

And when i reversed them, I couldn't get it to recognise the HD.

Can someone please explain to me what I need to do. Surely I can have
both these drives installed.

Intel ICH6 South Bridge:
- *1 x UltraDMA 100/66
- *4 x Serial ATA
ITE IDE controller
- *1 x UltraDMA 133/100

Ok run your HD on the south bridge as the master use your cdrw as the slave.
Dont use the ITE IDE port.. that wojld be the one on the bottom.. USE THE
ONE ON THE TOP where the serial ports are. There is no raid on this board
that I can see.

so to repeat run master slave on channel i your ICH6 south bridge (which
would have native raid 0, 1 and 0+1 suppoirt but I suspect its disabled here
in your bios, taken out as an option by Asus) the south bridge is next to
the floppy controller. HD= MASTER CDRW=SLAVE that will do it use the ITE
channel IDE for additional hardrives or cdrw's// remember never run 2 cdr's,
cd' roms dvd roms as master slave, you will get burn errors. Hope that
helps;

Scott
