Hi

Help needed please I have an ASUS P4P800-VM motherboard and I am trying to
get my SoundMax to run a 5:1 Surround Sound set of speakers. I have
purchased a set of Medion Active 5.1 Surround Speakers System these have
been wired up correctly.

I can only get my Subwoofer (Bass Speaker) and the central speaker to play!
The front & back speakers do not make a sound. I have the correct speaker
jacks going to the correct colours.

I have enabled the 5.1 in the Soundmax Control Panel

I have made sure the drivers are up to date

I have checked the bios is on auto for OnBoard AC97 Audio is on [Auto]

I have followed the Setting up Multichannel in the motherboard handbook

I have configured Win XP Pro to run 5.1 in the control panel

SoundMax mention something about jumper setting are wrong on the ASUS
motherboards! I have spoken to ASUS they say nothing is wrong with the
jumpers. I am going round in circles please can anybody help me and explain
how I can get my 5.1 speakers working.

It is something to do with the computer configuration or errors on the
motherboard in relation to jumper setting. I can find no info on what
motherboards have the wrong settings or how to check and make the correct
settings.

Please help

I see two products on the Medion site. And no manuals on
the speakers to be found.

If the speakers are analog only, try plugging the pairs of speakers
that don't work, into the jack that does work, just to test out
the speakers themselves.

For analog, this animated GIF sums up what you have to do.

With regard to jumpers, there are two jumpers on the FP_AUDIO1 header
on the motherboard. The jumpers connect Line_out_L to BLine_out_L,
and Line_out_R to BLine_out_R. If those jumpers are missing, then
that will affect the operation of the Front speakers only, on the
lime colored, Lineout jack. No jumpers are in the path of the
Rear speakers, or the Center/LFE.

AC97 codec chips have limited output drive on them. The Lineout jack
for the front speakers, will typically drive a resistive load as low
as 32 ohm load. The other two jacks will typically drive a 600 ohm
load. Your amplified speakers should have an input impedance of
10000 ohms, which will not load either of those two output drive
levels appreciably. In other words, if you are using amplified
speakers, there shouldn't be a problem at all. The speakers should
be expecting a line level signal (1Vrms max) to achieve full volume.

I hope I understand what you are doing - you are connecting via
the analog connectors and not the digital SPDIF connector ? Make
sure there is nothing plugged into SPDIF, while you experiment
with the speakers via the analog plugs.

Snip
Is there a "Balance" pot somewhere that you can adjust front / rear?
I had that problem in my setup.
Just my 2 cents...
Good luck

Hi Paul

The speakers are MD 42491 cannot see them on the website on the back of them
it says
Output AC 25v-50Hz/2.2mA 55VA.
Input 230v~50Hz 290mA
The subwoofer takes the leads from all the other speakers.
I have got the subwoofer and central speaker to play on 2 jacks on my Pc but
the other speakers front and back do not work on any of the jacks.

The speakers are brand new so it find it difficult to believe all 4 speakers
are broken. This only leaves me with the idea that the subwoofer connections
for all the speakers is faulty?

I do not have a digital SPDIF connector fitted so thats not an issue.
